Hey Freelancer, Hey Creative, Hey Mastermind…

I want to serve you a big, fat, unfiltered reminder today. Something too often forgotten, skimmed over, or dismissed in our relentless pursuit of building from scratch, something that’s truly ours.

Here it is:

When you’re your own boss, you’ve got to learn what others get handed.

And then give it to yourself.

Think about it.

When you’re in a job, you get a structured start time. A break. A clock-out moment. You walk away. You get to switch off, go home, eat dinner and live your personal life.

Or at least… you’re meant to.

But when you’re your own boss, no one tells you when to stop. There’s no bell. No structure. No promotion. No award.

Unless you create it.

And if you don’t?

You become a burnt-out, overworked employee of a boss who doesn’t know boundaries — and guess what? That boss is you.

Let that land.

Be a better boss to yourself.

That means setting the hours. Honouring the start and just as critically, the stop.

That means protecting your personal time. Nurturing your inner life, your body, your creativity. Your actual you.

And it also means something else we forget way too often:

To celebrate.

You don’t get promoted when you build your own thing. There’s no surprise bouquet from HR. No Friday drinks. No awards night.

Unless… again… you create it.

Because the truth is — working for yourself often means logging long, invisible hours. No instant reward. Just faith and flow and grit. You give so much, and you wait & sometimes the return isn’t even clear until way down the track.

But here’s what matters: You need to feel seen.

And if no one else is clapping, you need to be the one applauding.

So here’s what I’m challenging you to do right now:

1. Think about how you want to be celebrated for your work.

A massage? A weekend away? A dance in your kitchen? A new outfit? A gallery visit? Champagne?

2. Choose a goal that feels stretchy. Scary, even. A milestone that matters. Then pair them.

3. Do the work.

And follow through (and I don’t mean on the work) - I mean on the reward!!

Don’t be a boss who makes false promises and then skips the reward. Don’t be a shit boss to yourself.

And let’s talk about environment for a second.

When you’re in a job, you’re given a workspace. At the very least: a desk, a chair, a computer, a door you can close.

So tell me why, when you’re building your dream, you’re working hunched in your car, on the couch, or under a pile of laundry in bed?

Unless that’s what feels aligned for the day — which is totally valid — you deserve a space that inspires you.

You’re building your vision.

Give yourself a space that reflects that.

Good light. Your aesthetic. Inspiration everywhere. Something that says:

This is mine, and I’m proud to be here.

Being your own boss starts with self-leadership.

And that means:

• Boundaries

• Celebration

• Environment

• Integrity

• Devotion

Don’t just work for yourself. Lead yourself.

You are the a creator, capable of incredible things.

Treat yourself like it.

Act like it.
